Week one introduction. I’m Scott living in N.E. Alberta in a small town that isn’t on most maps. Now that I’ve started reading science fiction again it seems better to name this place after some obscure planet to save explaining why things here are different than everywhere else.
Until recently my job involved helping build online courses for oil industry, stationary engineering and heavy duty mechanical trades. At the moment my interests include MOOCs, educational theory, the dynamics of change and creativity as it relates to the ability to diagnose problems.
Having had a lot of trouble with school, most of my career has been spent in the building trades working with apprentices (and some time in art college). From there the idea of life-long-learning has always appealed, but never to the point of going crazy over a diploma. That said, school is important. Especially on planets like mine where thinking might actually become popular if enough of us do it.
Instead of the text (which I’ve read), I’m reading “The Design of Future Educational Interfaces” by Sharon Oviatt.
